DR: Digital Repository — How It All Began

The seeds of DR were sown in 1995, when founder Jack Ng was writing his Master's thesis. At a time when the internet was in its infancy, most literature reviews were painstakingly conducted in the reference section of the National Library. The idea of a digital knowledge repository, freely accessible to all, was already brewing — long before “open access” became a movement.

Fast-forward to Jack’s doctoral journey nearly three decades later, and digital publishing had matured. Yet, he encountered a persistent problem: many research articles were locked behind paywalls, and publishing in reputable journals remained a daunting, costly process for independent scholars and early-career researchers.

Out of this frustration, DR.com.sg was born — a Digital Repository where research can be freely published, accessed, and celebrated.

Our Mission

At DR.com.sg, our mission is simple but bold: To empower knowledge sharing by offering a rigorous, peer-reviewed, open-access publishing platform — free for both authors and readers.

We believe that research should not be hidden behind paywalls or discouraged by excessive publication fees. As Jack’s long-time friend Dr Patrick Tan puts it, “Sharing is caring” — and this ethos defines our work.

DR proudly supports early-career academics, practitioner-researchers, and educators who want their ideas to reach real audiences, not just databases.
